Plymouth Central Suburbs
For those looking to buy or rent property in the central suburbs of Plymouth, this is a mainly affluent part of the city that includes many sought-after areas, including Peverell, Hartley, Mannamed, Stoke and Mutley. The central suburbs of Plymouth offer many pleasant residential areas with larger and older properties for sale or rent.
Peverell was originally part of the manor of Weston Peverell, and is named in the Domesday Book. Two of the main roads are named Peverell Park Road and Weston Park Road. The area now consists of mostly Edwardian terraced houses, popular with those looking for period features, including open fires and ceiling roses.
Peverell borders Central Park, a popular recreational area for residents and Plymouth Argyle's football stadium is located at the western end of the park adjacent to the new Plymouth Life Centre, providing swimming, diving, climbing and gymnasium facilities. Peverell is seen by residents and estate agents as a safe, solid and central area with good quality housing stock and few social problems.
Mannamead is a Victorian and early Edwardian suburb with wide avenues and tree lined streets, such as Seymour Road and Thorn Park. Mannamead is within easy reach of the Manadon A38 intersection of the Devon Expressway and well serviced by a regular bus service into Plymouth City, via Mutley Plain. It is arguably one of Plymouth’s most popular residential addresses, particularly with those looking for excellent school catchments.
Mutley – with its main thoroughfare, Mutley Plain – was originally built as a smart, tree-lined avenue in late Victorian times, although today it is a bustling and mainly built-up area. Because of its proximity to Plymouth University, Mutley is a popular area for students to live and visit, and offers many bars, takeaways, cafes and small supermarkets. Central Park and Ford Park Cemetery are nearby.
Stoke has been prosperous for several hundred years and there are some distinguished private houses dating back to Georgian and Victorian times. As a place to buy or rent property, Stoke often represents excellent value for money. In a recent survey, the area was amongst one of the top areas to buy in the UK http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2013/jan/04/lets-move-to-stoke-plymouth-devon?INTCMP=SRCH. Stoke Village has a range of restaurants, shops, a post office and a number of
Hartley is an affluent area of the city that contains mainly Edwardian properties and is built on higher ground, offering views south towards the sea and north over Dartmoor.
